Cancer: Misinformation is a risk factor too

People who know me personally will know that I don’t take cancer lightly (for various reasons I won’t go into here). So I am always a bit reluctant to criticize people who make the fight against cancer their life’s mission. After … Continue reading → http://dlvr.it/1Pzffj The Science Bit

Weekly Neuroscience Update

Awakening from anesthesia is often associated with an initial phase of delirious struggle before the full restoration of awareness and orientation to one’s surroundings. Scientists now know why this may occur: primitive consciousness emerges first. The first atlas of the surface of the human brain based upon genetic information has been produced by a national team of […] http://dlvr.it/1PnXJX via @The_Brain_Blog

‘Gold rush’ to the bottom of the ocean threatens rare life forms

Science Spinning: Hydro-thermal vents, or ‘black smokers’ such as the one pictured here on the right are akin to small volcanoes, located at the bottom of our deep oceans. These vents are home to undiscovered new animal species that survive without light and under great pressure. The vents are also home to valuable metals, including gold, silver, […] http://dlvr.it/1PcXhP via @sciencespinning

Dublin, Thursday 5th April 2012: Celebrity broadcaster George Hook today launched Tell The Future, a story-writing competition encouraging primary school children North and South to write a short story on how to power homes, hospitals, factories and schools into the future. Now in its second year, the competition rewards the best ideas that young people in Ireland today have regarding energy and the environment.

George Hook is spearheading this year’s competition and has made a special animated video for pupils, parents and teachers to learn more about it (log on to www.tellthefuture.eu to view George’s video).

Bringing these written stories to life is a key feature of this year’s Tell The Future competition, and winners in the junior and senior categories will have the unique opportunity to have their story transformed into a one-of-a-kind animated video narrated by George Hook himself. In addition, first-prize winners will receive their own iPad and a specially-engraved trophy. The school of the winning pupil will receive five Netbook laptops, with branded mouse pads and t-shirts for his or her class. Second and third-prize winners will each receive a Kindle.

The closing date for entries to the Tell The Future primary competition is Friday, 18th May 2012. For full details, please visit www.tellthefuture.eu.

Where Is Bezos’ Laser?

Witch Trials:
Jeff Bezos who set up Amazon is starting to scare me.
Last week he bought a robot army, Kiva systems.
Soon he is getting moon rocket engines from the sea.
He is building a giant base inside a mountain.
Also if I understand cloud computing he also owns the weather
